Saving Hearts in California

Did you know that about 40 Americans die of cardiovascular diseases every minute? The main risk factors for cardiovascular disease are high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, and being physically inactive. Fortunately, heart disease is significantly decreasing in 40 of California’s 58 counties.

Still, people may have an undiagnosed cardiovascular condition and do not know until it’s too late. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in order to reduce your chances of heart disease it is helpful to: quit smoking, know your blood pressure, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you should be tested for diabetes, checking cholesterol and triglycerides, limiting alcohol, lowering stress level, and making healthy food choices.
